Kinect 2.0 Coming to PC for Developers

Standalone Kinect coming to PC July 15

Kinect 2The Microsoft store has added a Xboxless Kinect to its current listings. The 2nd generation motion sensing camera will be available to purchase independently on July 15 for $199. The device itself appears to be more of a development tool; advertising the ability to build apps that function with natural human gestures. A note on the listing reads:

“The Kinect for Windows v2 sensor does not ship with any software. It is intended for use with the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 (licensed separately) and will operate only with applications developed for Kinect for Windows v2. Developers can use the Kinect for Windows SDK 2.0 to build applications with C++, C#, VB.Net, Cx, or JavaScript.”

So if you’re like me and have no clue what that means, I’m guessing you won’t be using your Kinect to play your PC games anytime soon.
